Susan G. Komen of the Twin Tiers works to save lives by investing in research to prevent and cure breast cancer. Sunday, May 19, will mark the 21st Race for the Cure 5K run. Race proceeds fund breast health and breast cancer programs in the Twin Tiers Region.
The race includes a 1-mile walk, a 5K walk or run, as well as entertainment, vendors, and education about local breast health and breast cancer programs.
Registration can be done in-person at the Arnot Mall in the old Charlotte Russe location near Center Court on Friday, May 17 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. and Saturday, May 18, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 pm
Susan G. Komen of the Twin Tiers region would like to give a special thank you to the Chemung Canal Trust for sponsoring the 2019 Race for the Cure.
Roads will be closed throughout Downtown Elmira. Elmira Police advise motorists to plan alternate travel routes and anticipate additional travel time. Barries will mark closures and police urge motorists to not move barriers along the race routes.
The following roads will be closed:
EAST GRAY STREET – from the east side of Clemens Center Parkway to the west side of Lake St.
EAST SECOND STREET – from the east side of Clemens Center Parkway to the west side of Judson St.
BALDWIN STREET -from the north side of E. Water St. to the south side of E. Second St.
EAST MARKET STREET – from the east side of Clemens Center Parkway to the west side of Madison Av.
CARROLL STREET – closed between Lake St. and Fox St.
EAST WATER STREET – from the east side of Clemens Center Parkway to the west side of Judson St.
LAKE STREET – closed to southbound to all traffic from south side of E. Church St. going south
JUDSON STREET – Closed from Madison Av. to E. Church St.
MADISON AVE – closed from the north side of E. Water St. to the south side of E. Market St.
UNION PLACE – closed to all traffic
OAK STREET – from E. Clinton St. to Judson St.
