Teen Shot in Elmira, Police say “Not a random act”

A 17 year-old was shot multiple times in the city of Elmira, police said early Thursday morning.

Elmira police were called to the 400 block of West 3rd Street just before 7:30 p.m. Wednesday for a report of a large disturbance and shooting. When they got there, they found a 17 year-old male shot, he had several gunshot wounds and was rushed to a local hospital for treatment. Police said the victim, who’s name in not being released at this time, is currently in stable condition.

No arrests have been made as police said their investigation is on going. They also have a message for the public; “The Elmira Police Department would like to assure the public that this was not a random act. The parties had been involved in the original disturbance complaint,” Captain Anthony Alvernaz said in a news release.

The 400 block of West 3rd Street is currently closed. The Elmira Police Department is asking any witnesses or anyone with information regarding this incident to contact the Elmira Police Department at (607)737-5626, or the tip line at (607)271-HALT.

DEVELOPING: Multiple individuals have been detained and one known victim was transported to a local hospital following a shooting in Elmira. 

Around 7:30 p.m., multiple law enforcement agencies received reports of shots fired near the intersection of Davis Street and 3rd Street in the City of Elmira. 

The intersection has been closed and a heavy police presence remains in the area. 

A vehicle was involved in the shooting as well.
