All area groups and businesses are invited to help “March Out Hunger,” the 15th annual local “food-raising” event organized to help donate food to the Samaritan Center Food Pantry and Meals on Wheels of Chemung County.
These two agencies have experienced an increased demand by local residents struggling to put food on the table for their families. This event is being organized to help fill their shelves with nonperishable food items.
Local agencies and businesses are invited to donate or collect food for this drive. People will meet for the March at the Tops parking lot, 299 South Main Street, Elmira, at noon on Tuesday, October 25th, then proceed two blocks south to the Samaritan Center to drop off all food donations.
Everyone is invited to join the March. Groups can also get involved by hosting food drives now and dropping off nonperishable food or grocery items earlier at one of our agencies listed below.
· Tops Friendly Market, 229 S. Main St, Elmira is the Main sponsor and food items can be left at the store seven days a week from 7:00am to 10:30PM or at any Chemung County Tops Market.
· Chemung Canal Trust Company any Chemung County Office.
· Any Elmira City School District, Holy Family, Center St and the Intermediate School in Horseheads
Monetary donations are also needed, and can be used to purchase food for the Samaritan Center and Meals on Wheels at wholesale, non-profit rates from the Food Bank of the Southern Tier. For more information about the event, call Marianne Kalec at 607-737-3724.
