The Economic Opportunity Program of Chemung and Schuyler counties will open their family support services program sensory room June 12.
The room will serve as a dedicated space for children and adults with disabilities. It can be used for sensory stimulation, self-regulation, meditation, and more. Everything is individualized based on motivation, interests, relaxation needs, therapeutic and/or educational needs of each user.
The room was funded through a grant from the community foundation of Elmira-Corning and the Finger Lakes, inc. A ribbon cutting ceremony will take place today at 4:30 p.m. to celebrate. The event is free and open to the public.
