Many people are using essential oils nowadays for a host of medicinal purposes. Yet, it’s by no means a new fad. In fact, many of the essential oils used today can be found in the pages of the Holy Bible.
The Essential Gathering, a wellness and education center in Pine City, held an “Oils of Ancient Scripture” class Friday night. Neighbors flocked to learn how these oils were used in biblical times, and how they can be used today to benefit their overall health and wellness.
“What ended up startling me a little bit at first, was realizing I had never noticed it before, said Rebekah Wachob, who teaches the class. “They (the oils) were, referenced again and again in scripture. I realized they were just a part of history.”
There are over 600 references to essential oils in the Bible. From hyssop, mentioned in the book of Psalms by King David.
“Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean; wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.”
~ Psalm 51:7 (ESV)
To myrrh, one of the key ingredients in Moses’s holy anointing oil, and who can forget frankincense. Those in attendance learned how these essential oils offer a variety of benefits, from cosmetic and dietary purposes to spiritual and religious use.
“Everything that we have ever needed has been given to us on this earth, Shelley MacPherson of The Essential Gathering said. “We as humans have a habit of sometimes messing with what’s already here, and in its perfect form.”
