The Poor People’s campaign stopped in Elmira apart of their tour, “A National Call for Moral Revival.”
The campaign tackles issues including systemic racism, poverty, and militarism. All their works are centered towards giving a voice to the people they believe have been left out of the American narrative.
Campaign officials say it’s their way of reviving the efforts of Martin Luther King Jr., to continue the revolution of values in America.
“It becomes very important as a measure of human decency and maybe the unfinished work of this union, that we have an opportunity to voice for people who have not been able to voice for themselves,”
Reverand Bell says it’s only natural for his church to continue the work of the freedom movement because of their forefathers.
