Unsettled Chemung River stymies outdoor sojourn, boating trip scratched

Local News

Chemung River Friends cancelled their weekend long boating trip.

The paddling adventure was sidelined citing unsettled and “unsafe” conditions.

The trip was drawn up to be two – days and an overnight  for 60 paddlers from all across the United States such as Mississippi and Colorado.

Friends of the Chemung River Executive Director Jim Pfeiffer of said it hasn’t been easy planning events.

“We cancelled because it’s not safe, as you can see behind us, the water it high, it’s fast, it’s muddy, those are three things that are not safe for good paddling. So, while the weather is nice today, the river didn’t cooperate. It’s unfortunate.”

Pfeiffer expressed that it is tough to predict the weather.  As of right now, the team has no immediate plans to re-schedule. With the weather as unpredictable as it is, they’ll have to wait and see for a better day to set sail.
