Volunteers needed to clean a small Elmira creek

Jim Pfiffer, executive director of the Chemung River Friends stops by 18 News Today to discuss an upcoming creek cleaning event.

Volunteers are needed to clean Heller creek in Elmira. The creek has built up debris, that if not removed, will go into the lake, which provides drinking water.

The Chemung RIver Friends will host a cleaning event Saturday, April 13 from 9 a.m. to noon. 

Cleanup volunteers are invited to meet at 8:30 a.m. in the parking lot of Southern Tier Custom Fabricators, 1322 College Ave. River Friends will provide instructions, supervision, gloves, garbage bags, cleanup tools, and drinking water.

Registration can be done online, or volunteers can just show up at the meeting location. This event is open to all ages.
