ELMIRA, N.Y. (WETM) – The Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s will take place on October 19, 2019, at the Eldridge Park in Elmira.

Walk participants will complete a three-mile walk and learn about Alzheimer’s and other dementias, advocacy opportunities, clinical studies enrollment and support services from the Alzheimer’s Association. Walk participants will also honor those affected by Alzheimer’s disease with a poignant Promise Garden ceremony.

In New York State alone, there are more than 400,000 people who live with the disease and more than 1 million caregivers who provide unpaid care to their loved ones with dementia. Alzheimer’s dementia is the sixth-leading cause of death and the only disease that cannot be cured, prevented or even slowed.

The Southern Tier Walk is sponsored by Wegmans, St. Ann’s Community, Episcopal SeniorLife Communities, St. John’s, Arnot Health, Guthries, Visiting Angels, Hilliard and Bethany Village.

Registration begins at 8:30 a.m., opening ceremony at 9:45 a.m., walk at 10:00 a.m. To sign up as a team captain, join a team or walk as an individual, visit alz.org/walk.
