Residents of the Watkins Glen area are feeling full of the Christmas spirit as their annual Christmas festival kicks off tomorrow night.
“This year we have singing at 5 o’clock, we have a parade at 6:30, we have different craft activities for kids to do at Glenmount and Market, at the Franklin Street market, and also at Cabins to Castles this year,” Village Christmas Volunteer Chair, Susanne Vedder said. “Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus will be arriving in the parade and they will be at Famous Brands. And then, we have fireworks at 7:30 at the end of the lake.”
The festival’s unique parade is always a favorite for its yearly spectators.
“The route actually starts at 7th St. by Specchio Ford, and it comes all the way down to 2nd St, and then goes down 2nd St. and ends right behind Guthrie, and, it’s right on Franklin St,” Vedder said.
One of the most anticipated parts of the festival, lies with the fireworks celebration that concludes the night.
“The fireworks will be shot off right at the end of the lake,” Vedder said. “So, it’s a huge successful event. The fireworks are absolutely gorgeous and everybody kind of congregates at the end of the lake, and after the parade gets over.”
With a couple thousand people expected to line Franklin street, local businesses are sure to keep their doors open for shopping.
“Most of the businesses stay open for the event,” Vedder said. “So, with the number of people that are down here, they walk in and out of the stores. Some of the businesses actually put things out on the sidewalk for sale as well. So, it helps out all of the local businesses.”
Whether you’re a resident of Watkins Glen or not, tomorrow night’s atmosphere on Franklin Street is sure to excite any visitor for the Christmas holiday.
