Tourist season is not too far off and neither is the completion of a lot of work at Watkins Glen State Park.

Officials say the $6 million dollar project is ahead of schedule.

A new welcome center and greenways are just a few of the new features ..

Local officials say no attention had been given to the park for roughly 50 years. The number of visitors continue to increase.

“It’s not unrealistic to expect over a million visitors will be coming to the state park alone,” Tim O’Hearn, the Schuyler County Administrator, said. “With that, they will enjoy the numerous other attractions that area has to offer.”

the renovation was part of New York State’s 2020 Initiative to revamp state parks.

The park will open memorial day weekend.
