Woman indicted for manslaughter in Elmira bike accident

Sara Harnas, 40, of Elmira Heights, has been indicted for manslaughter in the first degree. Harnas is the individual who hit and killed a man on a bicycle in April.

Harnas was operating a motor vehicle with .18 percent of alcohol in her system according to a breathalyzer test she took after striking and killing Charles G. Rogers, a 68-year-old bicyclist.

Harnas fled the scene from the accident and was followed by a local man who called 911 to report her location and exactly what he saw.

Due to Harnas fleeing the scene she was also charged with Leaving the Scene of a Personal Inury Accident Without Reporting.

Other charges for Harnas include:

  • Aggravated Operation of a Motor Vehicle while Under the Influence of Alcohol
  • Operating a Motor Vehicle While Under the Influence of Alcohol in the 4th & 5th Degree
