The Trailblazers PAC held a workshop in Elmira Saturday for those who want to learn the ins and outs of local politics.
The workshop is spearheaded by recent State Senate candidate, Leslie Danks Burke. Burke is a democrat but the workshop is nonpartisan.
The nonpartisan organization’s goal is to generate political interest and expand upon grassroots political action.
“Currently I’m not in politics, this is my first run, and really my run is based on the average person really feeling empowered to be able to run,” said Shaun Marks, a real estate developer from Elmira Heights.
Those who attended the workshop tell 18 News they wanted further education in local politics.
“I have absolutely no background in politics, I’m a scientists by training and I think that my training makes me good at problem solving so I’m thinking that maybe there are some problems I could solve,” said Christa Heyward of Southport.
“Anything I can do to help and enhance the campaign, that’s why I’m here,” said Chris Callas of Elmira Heights. “These people come with high regards so I figured I might as well come here in our backyard and learn from the best.”
The workshop is offered throughout the Twin Tiers.
