Young girl injured in creek, saved by sergeant

Deputies rescue girl from creek

At approximately 5 p.m. reports began coming in about a child injured in the Newtown Creek in Horseheads. The Chemung County Sheriff’s office was the first on the scene and ultimately was the department that performed the rescue.

Upon arrival Sergeant, Mike Skroskznik of the Chemung County Sheriff’s Office, sprung into action by swimming down the creek after noticing a young girl who had an injured leg and was having trouble swimming. 

The rescue was ultimately a success and at this time there are no reports of any serious injuries.
