On Wednesday evening, Horseheads native, Dr. Barbara Mix was awarded the Cornell New York State Hometown Alumi Award.
The award is given to Cornell graduates who returned to their hometowns and helped enhance their communities.
Representatives from Congressman Tom Reed and Senator Tom O’Mara’s office were there with proclamations.
Mix’s colleagues and clients talked about the humanity she shows through her work.
“She’s a very caring person who works really hard,” said longtime colleague Dr. Michael Cary. “She’s always willing to help people to try and educate people”.
Dr. Mix owns Birchwood Veterinary Care and works part-time at Chemung Valley Veterinary Clinic. She also helps out at GST BOCES when needed. On Wednesday, she was honored for being a hometown great, but she says she just a being a team player.
” I have the best clients in the whole world,” said Dr. Mix. “I help them as part of their health team for their animals and on the farm to help the management team so that they can make a little profit. I’m just a little part of it. I’m just a piece of it,becasue it takes all us”.
Dr. Mix is one of six people to ever win this award.
