TOWANDA, Pa. (WETM) – A historic apartment building in Towanda has suffered severe damage after an early morning fire.

An apartment building at 208 Third Street caught fire early Friday morning. Multiple departments responded to the call with possible entrapment, and the call was terminated a few hours later.

The building is the historic house of Judge Ulysses Mercur, who was the 8th Judge of Bradford County and 12th Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania. The home was built in 1851.

According to an 18 News reporter on the scene, the home suffered severe damage, but there is no word on how extensive the damage is or if there were any injuries. 18 News will follow this story and continue to provide updates as they become available.
