A 51-year-old Elmira man is facing felony weapons charges in relation to a shooting in Elmira on Wednesday night.
Around 2 a.m. Thursday morning, Elmira Police arrested Jose Rivas and charged him with criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree, a class D felony.
The investigation into the shooting revealed that Rivas was in possession of a loaded shotgun and a loaded semi-automatic handgun at the time of the shooting.
Rivas was arraigned in Chemung County Court and remanded to the Chemung County jail. No bail was listed.
A 17-year-old who suffered multiple gunshot wounds remains in stable condition at Robert Packer hospital following the shooting.
Police said last night that the shooting victim was ‘not a random target.’
The investigation into the shooting is ongoing, and police say that additional charges may be filed
