ELMIRA, N.Y. (WETM) — After a guilty verdict in July, Caden Charnetski will be sentenced today. He was found guilty of vehicular manslaughter after crashing into Matthew and Harolyn Matteson’s motorcycle and killing them. The sentencing will take place in Chemung County court at 11:30 a.m.

Severe storms knocks the power out of thousands of homes and businesses yesterday. At one point there were over 2-thousand 4-hundred NYSEG customers without power. As of this morning, that stands at just under 1,700 with just over 400 of those outages in Chemung County.

New York state lawmakers want to enforce a new measure to allow the meaning of hate symbols to be taught in schools. The new bill has been crafted to deal with “the recent spike in hate crimes” in New York state. It would ensure kids in grades 6 though 12 receive instruction on the meaning of the swastika and the noose. No word on if it could be passed.
