ELMIRA, N.Y. (WETM) – A Health Department spokesperson says they are providing technical assistance and guidance to Guthrie Healthworks after water samples collected by the facility tested positive for Legionella. Now as a precaution the center voluntarily closed while it implements measures to prevent potential exposure.
Legionella has been in the news lately after 11 people were hospitalized this year in Chemung County. No new cases of Legionella have been reported since.
And, the City of Elmira opened the doors to 100 West Water Street. Lieutenant Governor Kathy Hochul joined City, County and State leaders for a ribbon cutting ceremony on Wednesday. Developer Park Grove Reality, constructed the 65,000 square foot development.
The $14 million dollar project includes commercial and retail space and also features 51 units of market-rate housing units which are currently all occupied. The project was supported through funding from Governor Cuomo’s Downtown Revitalization Initiative.
Plus, the suspect in the “Wallet Thief” video has turned himself in to the Elmira Police Department. He was subsequently arrested and charged for the larceny. EPD would like to thank the public for their assisstance in identifying this person.
