February 04 2022 08:00 am

A new candidate is shaking up Chemung County’s 14th Legislative District.

Her name is Christa Heyward, an Elmira native and the newest contender in county politics.

She faces legislative incumbent, Donna Draxler.

Heyward made her official announcement earlier this evening in Elmira’s Southside, citing education and attracting industry as some of her objectives.

She says she became interested in politics after taking an American Government class in high school.

“I think that with new insights and new perspectives and new ideas,” Heyward said. “We can really rev up our economy and make this area much more attractive.”

Heyward is a molecular biologist by profession and sits on Corning Community College’s Board of Trustees.
