No joke: Punk’d is back!

BET announced the return of the celeb pranking show along with a slate of other new shows at Thursday’s upfront presentation. The original hidden camera-practical joke reality series was created, produced and hosted by Ashton Kutcher and featured many of his celebrity friends getting “punk’d” in elaborate scenarios.

The network didn’t say whether Kutcher would be returning as the host. It seems doubtful that he would, for two reasons: 1) He’s busy being married to Mila Kunis and having a new baby, and 2) BET typically goes with black actors for their shows (what with the whole “Black Entertainment Television” thing).

The network said the new show would be tailored for their audience. BET is the number one network for black audiences, which, again, suggests Kutcher will be absent.

Punk’d was originally on MTV from 2003 to 2007, with a brief resurrection in 2012. The new incarnation will include behind-the-scenes looks at how the celebrity pranks are pulled off.

BET’s upfront slate also included a romantic-comedy sitcom called Zoe Moon with Brandy Norwood and a talent search show called Chasing Destiny featuring Destiny’s Child singer Kelly Rowland.

There will also be three “docu-series” shows, including one about a group of friends in urban Hollywood, one about workplace crimes, and one about the rise and fall of record labels over the past 25 years.

Are you excited for the return of Punk’d? Do any of the other shows sound good to you?
