Chemung County officials say for the twelfth straight year, the County Property Tax Rate will stay at $6.86 per thousand dollars of assessed value.
The budget is also said to hold the line on all spending.
A public hearing was held for the budget Monday night but nobody from the public showed up to offer feedback.
Legislators say it’s not uncommon for them to not have members of the public join them at these meetings because the tax rate has stayed the same for several years.
“The budget has been really lowered over the years and its really a skin bones budget and theres nothing you can really take away,” said Chairman of the Chemung County Legislature, Donna Draxler.
“We’re just doing what we have to do, the mandates are mandates and you have to take care of those and the rest has to fall in where it falls in.”
Those mandates include an annual $38 million dollars paid to the state of New York.
