UPDATED (11/14 5:09 p.m.): Chemung County District Attorney Weeden Wetmore says the maximum sentence if McCarty is convicted will be up to seven years in prison. Also, if convicted McCarty will have to register as a sex offender and be placed in the sex offender registry.
The Chemung County Sherrif’s Office announced that Cory McCarty,23, of Elmira, for Disseminating Indecent Material to Minors in the First Degree, a Class D Felony.
The Sherrif’s Office alleges that McCarty sent nude pictures and videos to a 16-year-old female over a four-month period.
Notre Dame High School principal Deborah Franklin confirmed to 18 News that McCarty was a coach for the Notre Dame High School female cross-country team, and has since sent his resignation to her and the school’s athletic director.
Franklin says she received a tip last Thursday and contacted the Chemung County Sheriff.
McCarty was arraigned in the Town of Horseheads Court and remanded to the Chemung County Jail in lieu of $2,000 cash/$4,000 property bond.
