New York State Police say five people were killed in a house fire on Route 145 in East Durham on Monday.
A sixth person was transported to the hospital in critical condition.
The victims have not been identified. The cause of death for all five victims are pending autopsies.
Police say they cannot identify the victims until the autopsies are completed.
A viewer, who drove by the home as it was fully engulfed around 6:30 a.m., says he saw dark smoke before the flames. He quickly stopped and called 911.
A prayer vigil is being held Monday night at 6 p.m. at the Sacred Heart/Our Lady of Knock Shrine.
The New York State police were assisted at the scene by the Greene County Sheriffs Office, Durham Police Department, New York State Fire, East Durham FD, Oak Hill FD, Freehold FD, Cario FD, Durham ambulance and Greene County paramedics.
The fire was put out around 12:30 p.m.
The fire remains under investigation.
