Officials Investigating House Fire on W. Clinton

Elmira Fire officials are investigating a fire that broke out in a vacant house at 327 West Clinton Street on Sunday morning.

The house was almost completely invisible from across the street due to the amount of smoke coming from the house.

Officials said the dilapidated house presented a few challenges to firefighters. One local 709 firefighter was sent to the hospital after falling down a flight of stairs. They were treated for minor injuries and have since been released.

Still no word on what may have caused the fire, but an 18 News reporter on scene said officials believe it started in the basement.
