One dead in State College shooting

A 29-year-old man is dead after a shooting in State College.

At approximately 1:45 p.m., officers were trying to serve a mental health warrant at the Marvin Gardens Apartments on the 1000 block of Old Boalsburg Road.

While police were attempting to serve the warrant, officers were involved in a shooting that ended in the death of a 29-year-old State College native, Osaze Osagie.

Osagie was the subject of the warrant and no one else was injured.

State Police were called in to investigate, along with the Centre County District Attorney’s office and the Coroner’s office.

The officers involved have been placed on administrative leave, pending the investigation.

Easterly Parkway Elementary School and the Delta Program were placed on lockdown as a safety precaution. All schools have resumed their normal operations.

The following letter went out to all district families:

Dear SCASD Community Member,

This is to follow up on lockdowns initiated today, March 20, at Easterly Parkway Elementary and the Delta Program at the request of the State College Police Department due to a security concern in the vicinity. To be clear, the incident did not involve our schools
and all students and faculty were and continue to be safe.

At this point, all of our schools have resumed their normal operations.

Please be aware that near Easterly Parkway Elementary there is a heavy presence of first responders and some roads are blocked. Specifically, we understand that police are not permitting access to Old Boalsburg Road. We do expect dismissal to proceed as normal; however,
there could be some travel delays in this area.
