WEST ELMIRA, N.Y. (WETM) A 17 year old male is in police custody following a high speed chase.

According to the West Elmira Police Department, at around 11:30 p.m. on June 30, officers observed, and attempted to stop a stolen vehicle on the 900 block of West Gray St. The driver did not comply and took off down West Church street at a high rate of speed.

The chase continued on State Route 352 in the Town of Big Flats. A deputy from the Chemung County Sheriff’s office was in the area and was able to use stop sticks to stop the vehicle. The stop sticks caused the right tire to deflate.
