Pedestrian struck by bicyclist riding on the sidewalk

The Elmira Police Department was called to the 100 block of N Main St Tuesday at around 10:40 a.m. to investigate a Pedestrian/Bicyclist accident that occurred on the sidewalk.

A pedestrian was struck exiting a local business on the sidewalk by an adult bicyclist operating a bike on the sidewalk.

The bicyclist fled the scene and officers were unable to locate the rider.

The pedestrian suffered a minor head contusion and was transported to a local hospital for evaluation.

The Elmira Police Department is asking any witnesses or anyone with information regarding this incident to contact the Elmira Police Department at (607) 737-5626, or the tip line at (607) 271-HALT.

The Police department also reminds riders that no one, regardless of age, is allowed to ride a bike on the sidewalk within a business district. Riders 14 and younger can ride on the sidewalk within the city.
