UPDATE: Female resident identified as victim in fatal Elmira house fire

UPDATE: (WETM – TV)- The Elmira Fire Department released a statement today stating the following:

The Elmira Fire Department wishes to express its sympathy to the family and friends of 44-year-old Connie Allington who died in a house fire on July 29, 2019 at 506 Matthews Street in the City of Elmira.

The exact cause of her death is unknown at this time.

The cause of the fire appears to be accidental in nature and the investigation is still in progress.   

There is no more information on the fire investigation at this time.

Future questions concerning the progress of the fire investigation can be directed to the City of Elmira Fire Department.

Connie initially made it out of her residence at the start of the fire.  She re-entered the house in an attempt to save her pet cats.  She was not able to come back out.

The Elmira Police Department tells 18 News that a 44 year old Connie J. Allington of Elmira. She died as a result of the fire.

The cause of the fire appears to be accidental and is still under investigation by the Elmira Fire Department.

According to the Elmira Police Department, one person has died as a result of a Monday evening house fire in a home on Matthew St. in the City of Elmira. The identity of the victim has not yet been released.
