Police Identify Man Killed in Car-Scooter Accident

Elmira Heights Police have identified the man killed in the car-scooter accident on E. 14th St. on Friday night.

Officers said they found a 79-year-old Dale Locke of Elmira Heights severely injured in the roadway when they arrived on scene just before 7 p.m.

The accident happened at the intersection of E. 14th and Horseheads Blvd. Officers said he was riding his motorized scooter across 14th St. when he was struck by a vehicle.

Police said Locke was treated on scene, but he was later pronounced dead at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center.

A reconstruction team is working to figure out exactly what happened. Officers said the name of the driver involved in the accident is not being released as the investigation is still ongoing.
