ELMIRA, N.Y. (WETM -TV) – The Elmira Police Department are looking into reports of individuals attempting to sell fake gold rings in the city of Elmira.

The most recent activity involves the peddling of men’s yellow gold rings that include a 14 karat or 18 karat stamp/engraving. these rings appear to be genuine ,however a local goldsmith has verified that they are in fact not made of gold.

There are ways to check if these sellers are legitimate.

“So if anybody has any suspicions, whether it be rings, books solicitations of any kind, they can always call the clerks office,” said Elmira Police Department Captain Anthony A. Alvernaz.

Alvernez mentioned that while rings are nice, as far as costume jewlery they are not real gold.

The police department has gotten conflicting reports on who is selling these rings. There is no description available at this time.

The police are also asking the public to remain vigilant and report it, if you see anyone people selling these fake rings
