In an attempt to help individuals reduce their exposure to identity theft, Chemung Canal Trust Company, in conjunction with Rogers Service Group, will host free shredding events during September and October at two of the Bank’s Chemung County branch offices. The schedule will be:
- Saturday, September 15 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Chemung Canal’s Corning Office, 149 West Market St.
- Saturday, September 22nd – 1pm – 3pm at the Main Office (Downtown Elmira)
- Saturday, October 13th – 1pm-3pm at the Waverly Office
- Saturday, October 20th – 1pm – 3pm at the Arnot Road Office
According to Michael J. Wayne, CCTC Senior Vice President & Director of Marketing, “for two hours on each of these days representatives from Chemung Canal Trust Company and Rogers Service Group will assist the general public by shredding confidential documents and records.” There is no charge for the service, which is open to individuals but not businesses.
“Properly disposing of important papers, statements and documents is one of the easiest ways to help prevent both fraud and identity theft,” Wayne said. “This is our twelfth year offering this free service; it has always been well received by our customers and the general public, and we expect that to be the case again this year,” he added.
Wayne indicated that Rogers’ mobile shredding trucks would be stationed within the Bank’s parking lots to allow the public easy access to drive in and drop off the materials and documents they would like to have shredded. Volunteers will be on-site to direct traffic to the proper drop off locations.
