14 Friendly’s in Upstate New York close doors

Regional News

Twenty-three Friendly’s have closed their doors across the country. The closed locations include 14 restaurants in upstate New York, three in Massachusetts, three in Connecticut, two in New Hampshire and one in Maine.  Hamburg, Amherst and Lancaster are among the closures in Western New York.

The franchise says it did so to consolidate resources and improve the product.  The Olean location is one of the few in our region that remain open.

The Horseheads location has also remained open.

Friendly’s apologizes for having no other restaurants in the area but encourages patrons to visit other locations when traveling. The sudden closures mean hundreds across the country are now out of a job.
The company says employees were informed personally and that they are working to support them with opportunities at other locations or severance payments.

Many Patrons have made Friendly’s part of their weekly routine. Customers we spoke with were shocked and disappointed in the decision.

Friendly’s now has 77 corporate-owned restaurants and 97 franchisee-owned restaurants nationwide.
