Former Waverly Dance Teacher Sentenced to 15 Years for Sexually Abusing Girl

The Binghamton Dance Studio operator and former Waverly dance teacher convicted of sexually abusing a child was sentenced Friday in Broome County Court.

Samantha Werkheiser was sentenced to 15 years in state prison.

Emotions were running very high in court, as the victim read a statement on the impact of Werkheiser’s actions.

She says she’s not just angry, but she’s filled with rage and she wants to throw up when she hears Werkheiser’s name.

The victim also says “I wanted her to be a mother-figure, but all she wanted me for was her sexual desires.”

The victim sobbed as she read her statement.

Then, Werkheiser addressed the court.

As she maintained her innocence, the victim stormed out of the courtroom.

“As God as my witness, I have never sexually abused my children or any child. Never. I am able to live with myself because God is with me and he knows the truth. He is my judge,” said Werkheiser.

Werkheiser called the victim a liar and says the allegations were cooked up by the victim’s father in order for him to win custody.

Before handing down the sentencing, Judge Joe Cawley said he was “absolutely confident” the testimony was true and that Werkheiser is guilty.

Werkheiser is prohibited from contacting the victim and her sister.
