Two local theaters are set to screen a film starring award-winning actor John Lithgow that was shot in the Rochester area.

“The Tomorrow Man” is set to open on June 14 at both The Little Theatre in Rochester and the Pittsford Cinema

Lithgow, who was born in Rochester, and co-star Blythe Danner were on hand for scenes at the Big M Supermarket in Gates in 2017. Crews worked for several weeks shooting the film around the Rochester area.

Production manager Eric Hollenbeck, a Horseheads native, told News 8 he encouraged film producers to bring the movie to the Rochester area.

According to reviews, the film follows doomsday prepper Lithgow as he meets and falls in love with Danner, who is a hoarder.

“The Tomorrow Man” debuted at the Sundance Film Festival in January. It currently has a 71 percent “fresh” rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
