Residents on Elmira’s Eastside gathered to watch a house being demolished on Oak Street Tuesday evening.
Neighbors told 18 News that they did receive a notice about the demolition beforehand. They said they were told the house was being torn down because asbestos was found.
Some residents said they’re hoping the city continues to tear down homes that aren’t being kept up.
“No I just hope that they continue cleaning up the neighborhood,” Crystal Phenes said.
“I mean we don’t live in a bad neighborhood–you know some people think we might but you know the more that they clean it up the more it will get better,” she said.
