It’s the time of year when students and schools are planning for prom, but there are concerns about safety in limousines following the crash last summer in Schoharie County.

Now, many parents are hesitant to allow their child to rent a limo.

An Albany-area assemblyman has drafted legislation for a limo database to make it easier for parents and students to see the DMV records of the limo drivers and their vehicles.

“There’s people concerned about this,” Assemblyman Angelo Santabarbara said. “Schools are concerned about this. Students are concerned about this. It’s on peoples minds. They don’t feel safe getting in these limousines anymore.”

People who lost loved ones in a limo crash on Long Island in 2015 testified Friday in front of a State Senate Committee, as did the CEO of a transportation company.
