Residents concerned about safety over partially snow-covered sidewalks

While the snow has slowed for the most in Elmira, the snow cleanup is also going slow.

Several sidewalk ramps still have snow, forcing some to walk on the street. 

The situation challenges some residents’ mobility and posing some danger. 

“You’ll see me struggle and fight to get over some of the snow,”  “It’s either that or I have to walk on the street, which is not a good idea. I’ll walk on the street until I have a clear path to get back up onto the sidewalk.”

City of Elmira law says homeowners are responsible of plowing the sidewalks in front of their home, as well as keeping any fire hydrants clear.

18 News reached out to the City of Elmira, they said they will get on the problem as soon as they can
