Richard Ball visits the Food Bank of the Southern Tier for Hunger Action Month


ELMIRA, N.Y. (WETM) – The Food Bank of the Southern Tier hosted Richard Ball, Commissioner of New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets on Wednesday in recognition of Hunger Action Month.

Commissioner Ball toured the facility and helped pack locally grown apples and discussed the role of New York State agriculture in in food assistance programs.

Commissioner Ball said during the press conference “no farmers, no food” in responding to the importance of farmers in sourcing fresh produce for the Food Bank.

Also in attendance was:
Rick Reisinger, owner of Reisinger’s Apple County.
Donna Lupardo, New York State Assembly representing the 123rd District.
Catherine Rogers, food pantry client.

Last year the Food Bank of the Southern Tier distributed over 9 million meals through direct programs and partner networks. which includes 165 food pantries, meal programs, and shelters in 6 Southern Tier Counties,
