The New York State Department of Transportation announced Thursday that on Sunday evening, June 2, 2019, milling and paving work will begin on State Route 14 in the village of Watkins Glen.
Milling work will be done between the hours of 9:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m. the nights of June 2 and June 3.
During the milling process, traffic will be detoured onto Fairgrounds Lane, Decatur Street and First Street.
Weather permitting, on Monday and Tuesday, June 3 and June 4, the first course of new asphalt pavement will be placed on the milled surface. Paving work will take place during daylight hours.
Traffic will be maintained on Route 14 during paving using two methods. Whenever possible, one lane of traffic will remain open in each direction to keep traffic flowing and minimize delays. Parking on Route 14 will be prohibited during these times to allow for two-way traffic.
When the pavement becomes too narrow for two-way traffic, a one-lane, two-way traffic pattern will be used, controlled by flaggers. Motorists should expect delays.
