MONTOUR FALLS, N.Y. (WETM) – A Savona was jailed Wednesday, August 7th, on a Family Court warrant due to his failure to not pay child support.
According to the Schuyler County Attorney Steven Getman the respondent was previously found to be in willful violation of an existing court order.
The amount owed from this warrant is $475,000 in back child support for his two children along with an additional $344 in judgements.
The respondent was detained in Steuben County and transferred to Schuyler County for further proceedings. He was arraigned $475 cash/$1,000 bond and will remain in jail until the Family Court date.
“Under New York State law, parents who willfully fail to obey court orders of child support can be sentenced to up to six months for contempt of court,” Getman explained. “Furthermore, support violators who do not appear in court as ordered, can be subject to a warrant of arrest.”
The respondent’s name has not been released to protect the privacy of his children and family.
