U.S. Senator Charles Schumer was in town today to officially announce good news concerning jobs in Chemung County.

“I have been fighting for you, and today it paid off,” Schumer said.

Senator Schumer rallied with employees and company executives at the General Revenue Corporation and Pioneer facility in Horseheads to officially announce that the company will create nearly 300 new jobs. This was made possible by Schumer’s push to include a provision in the Fixing America’s Surface Transportation Act. This service allows the IRS to hire designated private collection agencies to help collect back taxes.

“This is so important,” Schumer said. “Not only does it mean the people who work here (their) jobs are safe, we have been through a roller coaster here, but it means they are going to more than double the number of people and add 300 new jobs.”

Pioneer estimates this new contract will also create another 100 jobs at their facilities in Wyoming County. General Revenue Corporation plans to invest millions of dollars into a build out at its facility to go along with this new work. This means an economic boost for local contractors and other businesses in the area.

“To prepare for this contract, we have spent several million dollars building out this space that we are in right now, and getting ready for the placements that will come in the spring,” Navient CEO Jack Remondi said. “We are hiring New York workers to do so.”

The nearly 300 jobs coming to Chemung County is not only good news for those who are filling these seats, but it’s also good news for those who live in this area.

“It makes people feel good about the community,” Chemung County Executive Tom Santulli said. “We have been a roller coaster as a community of we bring jobs in and periodically jobs leave. It has always been that type of a situation. This week has been very good to Chemung County.”

Pioneer Credit Recovery and General Revenue Corporation will host open houses to fill more than 90 collections positions. The job fairs will be on Wednesday, Nov. 2 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., and will offer walk-in interviews at the following locations:

  • Pioneer’s office in Arcade, located at 26 Edward St.
