Senator Schumer pushing for limo safety reforms after deadly Schoharie crash

UNITED STATES (WSYR-TV) — Senator Charles Schumer is pushing for a plan to improve limousine safety.

This comes more than six months after 20 people died in a crash in Schoharie, New York.

The plan calls for the National Transportation Safety Board to place limos on its “most wanted list” and come up with new safety reforms.

Schumer says that in some cases, stretch limos can lack the proper number of side-impact aris bags, accessible emergency exits, and proper seat belts.

The operator of the company involved in the deadly limo crash in the Capital Region has been charged with 20 counts of second-degree manslaughter and 20 counts of criminally negligent homicide.
