It all starts Thursday–4 days of racing fun for fans and drivers across the country, all coming to WGI for the Sahlen’s 6 hours at the Glen. But even the drivers admit, it’s more than just the track that makes the trip to Watkins one of their favorites.
“I mean this country is just beautiful, the Finger Lakes and Watkins Glen…the history of this place when it comes to motor racing…this is definitely a destination to come to if you’re a fan and frankly if you just want beauty,” Shea Holbrook, driver of the #67 car said.
“This is a unique part of the country so it’s always awesome to come here, the fan experience especially here at the six hour and everything that it has to offer,” Trenton Estep, driver of the #3 car said.
And Watkins Glen certainly has lots to offer in addition to racing this weekend. With some warm, sunny days on tap, it would be a perfect time to cool off in the lake or visit one of the 34 wineries on the Seneca Lake Wine Trail.
You could also take a trip to the newly renovated entrance of Watkins Glen State Park where you can learn more about how the glen was formed, the history behind it, and then take a look for yourself by walking the trail and admiring the 19 waterfalls along the way.
