St. James Mercy Hospital announced Wednesday it has filed an application to build a new hospital at the former K-Mart Plaza site in Hornellsville.
 
The Certificate of Need (CON) application filed with the New York State Health Department calls for an 87,300 square foot state of the art hospital.
 
While the core hospital will be new construction hospital officials expect to convert part of the existing former K-Mart building, shown in this article, to a 60-thousand square foot medical office building.
 
Pending a final land purchase agreement and approval from the state, groundbreaking would begin in the coming months with the hospital opening in 2018.
 
Services at the newly planned St. James Mercy Hospital will include but not be limited to:
   A nearly 10,000-square foot emergency department
   A 15-bed medical/surgical unit
   A four-bed observation unit
   A surgery/endoscopy center
   An infusion center (non-chemotherapy)
   Radiology services
   Laboratory services
