Steuben County Sheriff’s Office to hold pistol proficiency courses


The Steuben County Sheriff’s office will be holding pistol proficiency courses.

There will be two courses, held at the Bath Rod and Gun Club. The first course will be July 21 and 22, followed by another course on September 15 and 16. The courses are 12 hours.

The course will teach safe pistol handling, pistol storage and will also teach shooting fundamentals, shooting positions, threat assessment, hand gun skill building and live-fire courses.

Students will be required to provide a current copy of their pistol permit. Other requirements includes:

  • Approved pistol, holster and reload device or method.
  • Approved eye and ear safety devices.
  • Approved 250 rounds of pistol ammunition.

The instruction is free, but here is a $20 fee that must be paid to the gun club. It can be paid through check or money order..

There is a 30-student maximum. No walk-ins will be allowed during training.
