The State University of New York’s historic building in downtown Albany will be lit in the colors of the French flag.
Chancellor Kristina M. Johnson’s decision follows Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s announcement that One World Trade Center would honor the Notre Dame Cathedral following a devastating fire Monday evening.
“The Notre Dame Cathedral is a world treasure, and yesterday’s fire and the resulting damage caused immeasurable loss to us all,” said SUNY Chancellor Johnson. “I had the honor of visiting this historic and religious site, and was immediately moved by its universal significance. And, as someone passionate about design, I was amazed by its structural innovation and gothic architecture.”
“Our building will light tonight in red, white, and blue to support the people of France and the Catholic community. We are thankful that Notre Dame still stands today, and we are filled with hope that one day soon it will rise again to its full glory,” she said.
