38,000 people would use a beach on Onondaga Lake, according to a survey to help Onondaga County decide if it’s worth the investment.
The only survey, open to anyone, was conducted for about a month in January and February.
Onondaga County’s Environment Director, Travis Glazier, shared some preliminary results with the County Legislature.
Two in three people do not feel the lake is safe enough for swimming.
County leaders say, without hesitation, that the lake water meets swim standards set by New York State.
The survey also looked at how many of Onondaga Lake Park’s annual visitors also use beaches: nearly 38,000.
The survey is one early step in the process to build a beach. The full results will be released at a public meeting in June.
