The 17th annual ‘March Out Hunger’ drive still to happen despite Tops closing

News

All area groups and businesses are invited to help “March Out Hunger,” the 17th annual local “food-raising” event organized to help donate food to the Samaritan Center Food Pantry and Meals on Wheels of Chemung County.

This year will be slightly different due to the recent announcement of Tops grocery in Elmira closing it’s doors. While there will not be an actual march, food donations are still being collected to be distributed.

The items that are needed the most are canned proteins, single-serve, easy to prepare items, fruit boxes and pudding cups, and quality canned or boxed food items. Please no glass or expired items.

Local agencies and businesses are invited to donate or collect food for this drive. Nonperishable food or grocery items will be taken until October 19th at any of the following locations listed below.

• TOPS Friendly Market, Elmira (our main sponsor) food items can be left at the store 7 days/week from 7a-10:30p (229 S. Main St)
• Any other TOPS Friendly Market in Chemung County
• Chemung Canal Trust Company, any Chemung County Branch
