As winter weather begins to creep into our forecasts, it’s important we take precautions when driving.
Aside from limiting speed and staying aware of surroundings during snow and other inclement weather, all drivers should be in possession of a winter kit in preparation of being stuck out in the cold.
“Have a small disaster plan for travel,” Executive Director of the Finger Lakes American Red Cross, Brian McConnell said. “And part of that is not only knowing your route and sharing your route and what time you expect to get to your destination with others, but also having a kit in your vehicle in the unlikely event that you are detained or stuck in the snow. So, we encourage individuals to have a blanket, maybe some food, have an extra a change of winter clothes, a scarf, mittens, gloves.”
